Sector-Specific Information

Ottawa downtown street

Growing our human capital — our people and our city.

Ottawa Employment Hub has prepared Sector Spotlights for Ottawa’s top 12 sectors in 2016 (based on number of jobs). These reports pull data from two key sources:

  • EMSI Analyst – Harmonizes labour market data from a variety of Statistics Canada sources, combining them into one master dataset so that the strengths of each compensate for weaknesses of others
  • Vicinity Jobs – Scans online job postings and profiles of online job seekers on commonly used job boards and corporate websites to compile data on local labour supply and demand

Sectors are classified according to the 2012 edition of the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS). Each sector is assigned a 2-digit NAICS code and is broken down into more detailed levels of classification. These reports provide data at the sector, subsector (3-digit), and industry group (4-digit) levels.  Below we show the top 12 sectors in Ottawa based on number of jobs in 2016, ordered from most to fewest number of jobs. Click on the sector name to be taken to the page for the corresponding Sector Spotlight.
